2022/23 Referral Hall Registration Period

Sisters, Brothers, & Kin, 

Per Section I.D of the Referral Hall Procedures, New and Renewal applications may be received during the Registration Period (June 1-August 15).  

Applications must be completed by both New and Former Registrants. New applications – for both new and renewal – for the ’22-’23 Season will be made available soon, as the next Registration Period approaches (June 1-August 15, 2022). 

Applications received…
…before June 1 will apply to the current work season, ending August 15, 2022.
...between June 1-August 15 will apply to the ’22-’23 Work Season (6/1/22-8/15/23).
…after August 15 will apply to the ’22-’23 Work Season (6/1/22-8/15/23) but will be processed as late applicants.

2023 Local 205 Unionism Classes

Any who are interested in joining IATSE Local 205 as a member are required to attend one unionism class before applying.

Our next unionism class offerings for 2023 are being scheduled. Check this page again soon for updates.

Rigging and ETCP Prep Course

Combining elements from a number of his rigging and safety courses, in 2020 Brother Robert Koch developed his excellent offering: Rigging and ETCP Preparations.

Brother Koch was accepted into the first online “Training Techniques & Course Development Workshop” and this class, first presented locally for 205, is now part of the IATSE Train the Trainer curriculum library!

This coming week, Monday Nov. 22nd beginning at 10:30am, join Bobby for another opportunity to celebrate our craft and learn from a leading industry professional.  Offering something for every skill level, however those eligible to test for ETCP rigging certification should not miss this opportunity!

The IATSE TTF course description:
This course provides a general introduction to the profession of Event Rigging, as well as preparation for others wishing to elevate and become a Certified Rigging Technician. Topics include review of responsibilities, people in charge, policies, liabilities, tools and equipment used, proper procedures, formulas and calculations, as well as many OSHA requirements. Through this course students gain an understanding of basic and advanced skills used throughout the entertainment industry.
•    Gain an overall understanding of the production process
•    How to interpret and understand weights and ratings
•    Proper use of tools and equipment, including basic troubleshooting methods
•    Safe methods for proper placement and positioning of equipment
•    OSHA requirements for Rigging and Fall Protection
•    Requirements needed to possibly become a ETCP certified technician

The IATSE Entertainment & Exhibition Industries Training Trust Fund is supporting Local 205 in presenting OSHA 10 training & certification this April – join us in the initiative to build a 100% certified workforce!

The workshop is scheduled 4/5 – 4/9, meeting 9:00am-noon online via Zoom.

Attendance is limited, free for IATSE members, those completing all course requirements will earn a valuable industry certification and wallet card.

What is OSHA 10 G.E.S.?

OSHA ten hour training is a safety certification recognized & required across many industries, the OSHA General Entertainment Safety version however uses examples from the entertainment industry, created by IATSE members for IATSE members!

COVID-19 Safety Training Flyer

The IATSE Training Trust has created COVID-19 safety training intended to guide our workforce in returning to work:

COVID-19: Recommended Guidelines for Preventing Exposure in the Workplace.  

In February the class was revised, updated and is now available to present in a group format.  In addition to essential information and best practices this course discusses administrative controls to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our workplaces.

Brother Davis has agreed to introduce this important training online via Zoom, tentatively Thursday March 25th at 2:00pm.

If you are unable to attend Thursday’s class another option available to members is the self-directed version offered by the IATSE TTF.  The content will be the same but without the benefit of group discussion and sharing of information specific to our jurisdiction.   Learn more about IATSE “Safety First” self-directed training modules.

IATSE Train the Trainer Courses

The IATSE Training Trust is offering a three-day, 4½ hours per day, Train the Trainer intensive in a distance-learning format.

This workshop is intended for individual trainers who actively teach craft skills or safety classes for their local or are developing those classes for their local. What can trainers expect?

  • Approaches to training-specific content including active learning and critical thinking techniques for in-person and online delivery
  • Online facilitation techniques
  • Selecting materials that connect the learner to content in a meaningful way
  • Hands-on practice designing outlines and lesson plans.

The workshop is for trainers of every experience level.

THIS COURSE PROVIDES A GENERAL INTRODUCTION INTO THE WORLD OF WORKPLACE HEALTH AND SAFETY. IT EXPLAINS WHY WORKER HEALTH AND SAFETY IS IMPORTANT, WHY INJURIES AND ILLNESSES OCCUR IN THE WORKPLACE, EFFECTIVE INJURY AND ILLNESS PREVENTION PROGRAMS, METHODS OF HAZARD IDENTIFICATION AND CONTROL, AND STRATEGIES TO PROMOTE HEALTH AND SAFETY.

Class is exclusive to IATSE members and individuals who have worked under an IATSE contract that contributes to the TTF, Freeman AV for example.

OSHA-10 Entertainment Classes in Nov. 2020

For 205 Members via Announce:

Brothers and Sisters, Next month Brother Patrick Crowley will present OSHA 10 Entertainment, a unique approach to gaining a certification that many employers and workplaces now require.

Temporarily allowed by OSHA to be presented online and divided into five small sessions, this workshop was designed by IATSE members and utilizes examples from the entertainment industry. 

OSHA 10 certification cards will be provided to 15 attendees that meet all instruction requirements.

Offered at no cost to IATSE members, enrollment is limited.  Email interest to the Vice President.

OSHA 10 – Entertainment – November 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 (9am-noon)

Also worth noting that some of the only work available during COVID right now is construction/installation work. Many of these jobsites require OSHA-10, and it’s not something you can get last minute.
